Coloring page generator: clean line art in a printable pack

Chapbook generates coloring pages as part of a printable pack, not one at a time. You describe a theme and an age, approve a line for each page, and every picture is drawn as black outlines on white, then cleaned and checked. A pack runs 8 to 40 pages; each picture uses 5 credits, and one that fails the check costs nothing.

A brief to start from

A twelve-page coloring pack for a small-town aquarium's family day: sea turtles, clownfish, a seahorse among kelp, an octopus in a jar, a diver and a tide pool, one simple scene per page with big open shapes. For ages 3 to 5, given away from a book page where a parent, guardian or teacher signs up. All coloring pages, no puzzles, and every character is our own.

Start from this brief
5 credits a picture
Charged only for a picture that passes the line-art check. Redrawing one costs the same and needs a paid plan.
From 8 pages
The shortest pack, all pictures to color, uses about 74 credits with its outline, note and cover. The longest has 40 pages.
One PDF to print
Black on white, on US Letter or A4, with a color cover. Every page comes out in that one file. Files without the watermark need a paid plan.

What makes a page you can actually color

An ordinary generated image is a poor coloring page: it arrives with soft gray shading, faint lines that vanish on a home printer, and black areas that eat a marker. So Chapbook does not stop at the prompt. It asks for closed black outlines on white with no lettering, and then every painting goes through a cleaning pass and a check before it is kept.

The cleaning pass makes the picture pure black and white, removes stray specks, and thickens strokes that are too thin to print well. The check then refuses a picture with color, with gray fill that means shading, with heavy solid black, with too little white for the age you chose, or with nothing on the page. A refused painting is painted again, a few times at most. If none passes, the page stays empty for you to redraw, and you are not charged for it.

The same rules run at every age, but the bar moves. A picture for ages 3 to 5 needs the most open white, big shapes for a fist around a crayon. A picture for adults can carry far more detail.

Original pictures only

Each picture’s subject is read before anything is painted. A page that names a character, franchise, brand or mascot someone else owns, a real or famous person, or an artist’s style is refused, and nothing is charged. That goes for how a picture is described as well as what it shows. Asking for “a fox in Art Deco style” is fine, and asking for one in the manner of a living illustrator is not.

For a children’s pack, the image provider is also sent its strictest content filter.

Who it is for

A coloring pack is something a family takes home, which makes it useful to anyone with a family audience: a dental or pediatric clinic with a waiting room, a library or museum with an event, a tutor, a brand for children. Adult packs suit a studio or a coach who hands out something calming to do. Chapbook is for making your own pack around your own theme. If you only need free pages to print today, a library of ready-made sheets will be quicker.

This page starts from a brief because Chapbook has no sample pack to show yet. Open it and change the theme, and the planner will show you a line for every page before anything is drawn.

How it works

  1. Write the brief. The theme, the age, and how many pages to color.
  2. Approve the outline. Planning uses 10 credits. Each page’s title is the line printed above the picture, and its description is what gets drawn, so this is where you direct the pack.
  3. Draw. Each picture uses 5 credits. A new account’s 60 credits go toward this once, with no card.
  4. Redraw and export. Redraw page paints a new picture for the price of one, on a paid plan. Export one PDF, with Print one side if markers would bleed through.

On a paid plan the pack gets a public book page, where a parent, guardian or teacher signs up for it; a children’s pack’s form is addressed to them and never to the child. For the rest of what a pack can hold, such as worksheets and puzzles, see the activity pack maker.

What it does not do

Pages come out in the pack’s PDF, not as separate image files. There is no EPUB or Word document for a pack, and no print file for KDP. It does not trace your photo into line art or edit a picture by hand: to change a page, change its description and redraw it. And a passing check means the picture is clean line art, not that it is good. Look at every page before you give it to a child.

Questions people ask

Can I generate just one coloring page?

No. Pages are made inside a pack of at least 8 pages, and they arrive together in one PDF. For a single sheet with no AI, the free word search and maze maker makes one puzzle at a time, though it does not draw pictures.

How much does a coloring page cost?

5 credits a picture. A coloring page makes no separate writing call, because its caption is already in the outline. A picture that fails the line-art check is not saved or charged.

What happens if a picture has gray shading?

It fails the check and is painted again, a few times at most. Color, gray fill, heavy solid black, too little white for the age, and blank pages all fail. If no attempt passes, the page is left empty and nothing is charged.

Can it draw a cartoon character I like?

No. A page that names a character, mascot or brand someone else owns, a real person, or an artist's style is refused before it is drawn, and nothing is charged. Describe an original character instead, such as a small round robot with one antenna.

Can I sell these coloring pages as a KDP coloring book?

Chapbook is not built for that. A pack is a printable PDF to give away from a book page, with no paperback interior or wrap cover, and KDP's rules on AI-generated images are yours to check. Print-heavy KDP catalogs need another tool.

Can I make coloring pages for adults?

Yes. Choose the adult band and the pictures can carry far more detail. The children's bands use fewer, larger shapes with more white, and send the image provider its strictest content filter.
