Chapbook terms

These terms apply to Chapbook, a product of pdfs.build, and form part of thepdfs.build Terms of Service. TheChapbook Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data. Where these terms and the Terms of Service differ, these terms control for Chapbook only. Capitalised terms have the meaning given in the Terms of Service.

Your output

You own the manuscripts, covers and exported files that Chapbook generates for you (“Output”), subject to the pdfs.build Terms of Service and to the rights of third parties. We claim no ownership of Output. AI outputs are probabilistic and may be inaccurate, incomplete, non-unique or similar to content generated for other users; we do not promise that Output is correct, original or non-infringing.

Your sources

When you upload or link documents, notes or web pages as sources, you attest that you hold the rights, licences or lawful basis needed to submit them and to have them processed, summarised and drawn on in your Output. Do not upload material you are not entitled to use.

AI processing

Chapbook sends your brief, sources, manuscript and cover instructions to third-party AI model providers to generate and edit content. Those providers process your content under our applicable provider terms, as described in the Chapbook Privacy Policy. We do not use your content to train AI models developed by us.

Prohibited uses

In addition to the acceptable-use rules in the Terms of Service, you must not use Chapbook to:

  • Closely imitate the distinctive style, voice or visual work of a living author or artist, or present Output as their work;
  • Create covers or content that depict a real person in a deceptive way, including implying endorsement, authorship or participation they did not give;
  • Infringe a trademark, including in titles, series names, cover text or imagery;
  • Generate content that is unlawful, harassing, deceptive or otherwise prohibited by the Terms of Service.

We may refuse, remove or restrict Output and suspend access where we reasonably believe these rules have been broken.

Your responsibilities when publishing

You remain responsible for reviewing and fact-checking Output before you rely on it or publish it, and for complying with the rules of any store, marketplace or platform you publish through. In particular, Amazon KDP requires you to disclose AI-generated content when you publish; seeAmazon's content guidelines. Chapbook's publishing checklist reminds you of this, but the disclosure is yours to make.

No guarantees

Chapbook does not guarantee income, sales, rankings, reviews, or acceptance by Amazon KDP or any other store or distributor. Our EPUB pipeline is validated against EPUBCheck in our own testing and our covers are produced at KDP-sized dimensions, but every store applies its own review, and that decision is theirs.

Plans, credits and cancellation

Chapbook subscriptions and credits are separate from any pdfs.build plan and its AI credits and cannot be exchanged for them. Monthly Book Credits expire at the end of each billing period and do not roll over. Purchased top-up credits do not expire and remain usable after cancellation. After cancellation you keep access to files you already exported and can keep editing your manuscripts; creating new clean exports requires an active subscription. Billing, renewals and refunds are otherwise governed by the Terms of Service and thepdfs.build Refund Policy.

Book pages and reader lists

If you publish a public book page, you are the controller of the reader list it collects — the names and email addresses of the people who sign up are yours, and you decide what to do with them. Chapbook processes that list on your behalf, as your processor, to run the page and let you export the list. We do not sell reader lists, or any list, to anyone, and we do not send them anything for you: Chapbook sends no email to a reader at any point.

You must not use a reader list to spam people or to contact anyone in a way you would not be entitled to under this policy or applicable law, must honour a reader's request to be removed, and may import a Chapbook reader list into another tool only where you have a lawful basis to keep contacting that address. Every address in the list is unconfirmed — Chapbook never sends a confirmation email — so the tool you import into may ask a reader to confirm before you can send to them.

In addition to the acceptable-use rules above, a public book page must not make deceptive claims, host or link to unlawful content, impersonate a real person or organisation, collect sensitive personal data (health, financial or similar) through its sign-up form, or load a third-party tracker or analytics script. We may take a page down, with or without notice, where we reasonably believe these rules have been broken; the page's contacts remain yours regardless.

Changes

We may update these terms as Chapbook changes. For material changes we will give reasonable notice, and changes apply prospectively.
