# Lead magnet ideas for personal trainers

A personal trainer’s lead magnet should remove what keeps someone from starting: not knowing what to do in a gym, how often to train, or how to fit it into a full week. Here are ten briefs that open in Chapbook as starting points, each with its reader and voice. None promises weight loss or a body, and you check every movement yourself.

## A brief to start from

> A guide to the first month in a gym: how to walk in and find your way around, the handful of machines and lifts to start with, how often to go, what soreness is normal, gym etiquette, and when to ask for help. Reader: a thirty-five-year-old who joined a gym in January and has not gone back since the tour. Voice: friendly coach, second person, no shame. It promises no weight loss or body change and says to see a doctor before starting if unsure.

## 10 ideas

1. **Your first month in the gym** (Lead magnet). Someone new to a gym is afraid of the free-weights room and of doing it wrong. A plain plan for the first month gives them something to follow through the awkward first weeks, and shows how you coach.

2. **How to choose a personal trainer** (Lead magnet). People hiring a trainer for the first time don’t know what to look for. Giving them fair questions, including about certifications, puts you in the running with a buyer who’s ready to pay.
Brief: A fair buyer's guide to hiring a personal trainer: what a trainer does, certifications and what to ask about them, what a first session should include, in-person versus online, how packages usually work, and warning signs. Use only my own prices if I supply them. Reader: someone who has never hired a trainer and is unsure what they are paying for. Voice: plain and fair, no invented figures, no promised results.

3. **The training log workbook** (Workbook). It’s hard to add weight when you can’t remember what you lifted last week. A log with short lessons on progress is something a client uses every session, with your name on every page.
Brief: A twelve-week strength training log with short lessons: how to warm up, how to choose a starting weight, what progress can look like beyond the scale, when to add weight and when to rest, with a fill-in log page for each week. Reader: a beginner who trains twice a week and forgets what they did last time. Voice: second person, plain, short lessons then pages to fill in. No promised results, and it says to stop if something hurts.

4. **Strength training for people over fifty** (Lead magnet). Someone starting at fifty-eight can feel out of place in a gym built around younger people. A respectful guide with a slow start speaks to them directly.
Brief: A guide to starting strength training after fifty: why it is worth starting now, how to begin slowly, simple movements for legs, back and arms, balance, rest and recovery, and what to ask your doctor before you begin. Reader: a fifty-eight-year-old who has never lifted a weight and feels out of place at the gym. Voice: respectful and encouraging, no youth talk. General information only, no invented statistics, no promised results.

5. **The twenty-minute plan for people with no time** (Illustrated guide). “I don’t have time” is something every trainer hears. A simple plan that fits in a busy parent’s week answers it, and shows what programming by you would look like.
Brief: An illustrated guide to training in twenty minutes at home with a pair of dumbbells: how to set up, warming up, a simple full-body routine, how to fit it around children or shift work, and how to keep going when you miss a week, with something to try at the end of each section. I will upload my own photos of each movement. Reader: a parent of two who can only find twenty minutes before anyone wakes up. Voice: brisk and kind. No promised results.

6. **A movement library for your clients** (Collection). Clients forget how a movement should feel between sessions. A reference with your own cues, in one repeating shape, saves you texting the same answer and gives prospects a look at your coaching.
Brief: A collection of sixteen basic strength movements, grouped into squat, hinge, push and pull. Each entry has a fact list (equipment, muscles used, common mistake, easier version), then a short paragraph with my coaching cues. I will upload my own photos, and every cue comes from the notes I supply. Reader: a client practicing between sessions. Voice: short, direct, encouraging, no promised results.

7. **A brochure on how you train** (Brochure). Gym members walking past you want to know what you actually do before they’ll start a conversation. A short booklet at the front desk answers that with no sales pitch at all.
Brief: A short booklet for an independent personal trainer: who I work with, how a first session runs, what a typical week looks like, how scheduling and cancellations work, and how to get in touch. Use only the details I supply. Reader: a gym member who has noticed me working with clients and is too shy to ask. Voice: warm and direct, first person, no promised results, no before-and-after claims, no testimonials.

8. **A monthly note for clients and leads** (Newsletter). A past client may come back when life settles down, and it helps if you’ve kept in touch. One short issue a month keeps you in mind with no hard sell.
Brief: A monthly newsletter issue from a personal trainer: one movement explained, one habit to try, one myth to think twice about, a reader's question, and my open slots. Use only the facts I supply, and date and link any study I name. Reader: a former client who stopped when work got busy. Voice: brief, friendly and honest, no shame, no promised results.

9. **Getting back after a break** (Workbook). Coming back after months away can feel worse than starting. A gentle plan for returning reaches people who already know what training gives them.
Brief: A six-week workbook for returning to training after a long break: setting a starting point lower than you want to, a simple weekly plan, managing soreness, handling a missed week, and a page to fill in each week. Reader: someone who used to train hard and has not been to a gym in a year since having a baby or changing jobs. Voice: second person, kind and direct. It says to check with a clinician first after surgery, illness or pregnancy. No promised results.

10. **The book behind your method** (Nonfiction book). A book on how you actually coach sets you apart from a feed of workout clips. It’s what you give a nervous prospect who wants to know how you think before they commit to anything.
Brief: A practical book on how ordinary people can stay strong for life: why consistency matters more than intensity, how to train around work and family, recovery, how to eat without a diet, and what to do when motivation goes, with composite fictional clients labeled as such. Reader: a forty-something who has tried three programs and quit them all. Voice: straight-talking first person, no invented statistics, no promised results, and no meal plans.

## How to choose one

Write for the client you most enjoy training and want more of. If they are new, write the first month. If they are over fifty, write that. If they have the skills and no time, write the twenty-minute plan. A guide aimed at everyone tends to reach no one, because each of those readers has a different fear to get past.

Watch what the draft says about the body. Take out any promise of weight lost or muscle gained, and don’t add meal plans unless you are qualified to give them where you work. Read each exercise as if a beginner were following it alone, because one will be.

## Every brief here opens in Chapbook

Each idea comes with the paragraph Chapbook needs to start: the topic, the reader and the voice. The brief at the top of this page is a starting point, not a book we have already made from it. Open it, change the reader to the person who would actually hire you, and add your own cues as a source. Chapbook then proposes titles and an outline for you to approve before anything is drafted.

## Questions

### What is a good lead magnet for a personal trainer?

One that gets a beginner through the first step they fear, such as the first month in a gym or a plan that fits twenty minutes. It should be usable alone, and show how you coach without promising anything about their body.

### Can a trainer’s lead magnet promise weight loss?

These briefs don’t, and you can’t know what one reader’s body will do. Describe what you teach and how you work, and read the draft for any promise it may have slipped in.

### Can I use generated pictures to show an exercise?

Don’t rely on them. A generated picture can get a joint angle or a grip wrong, and a reader may copy it. Upload your own photos in the editor for any movement you teach, including when a brief starts with generated ones.
