# Lead magnet ideas for lawyers

A lawyer’s lead magnet should explain a process to someone frightened by it: what happens after a car accident claim is filed, what probate involves, what to bring to a first meeting. Here are ten general-education briefs that open in Chapbook as starting points. None is legal advice, Chapbook checks no rules, and you review every draft for your own bar and advertising rules.

## A brief to start from

> A plain guide to what probate generally involves after a parent dies: what the process is for, the usual stages, what an executor is typically asked to do, what to gather first and the questions to ask an attorney. Reader: an adult child named as executor who has never dealt with a court. Voice: kind and plain, second person. General education only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, it says the rules vary by state, and no dated deadlines or fee figures.

## 10 ideas

1. **What probate generally involves** (Lead magnet). Someone just named as executor is searching at a hard moment, with no idea what comes next. A kind, plain account of the stages helps them, and tells them when to call an attorney.

2. **What to bring to a first meeting** (Lead magnet). People put off calling a lawyer partly because they don’t know what they’ll be asked. A checklist for a first meeting makes that call easier and makes the meeting itself more useful.
Brief: A checklist for a first meeting with a family law attorney: documents to gather, the timeline to write down, questions to ask about fees and process, and what to expect in the hour. Reader: someone separating from a spouse who has never hired a lawyer. Voice: calm and organized. General education only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, no promised outcomes, and it says to seek urgent help first if they feel unsafe, with a marked blank for local support lines.

3. **Estate planning basics for young parents** (Lead magnet). New parents know they should do something and don’t know what. An introduction to what these documents generally do brings them to a conversation they’ve been putting off for years.
Brief: An introduction to estate planning for parents of young children: what wills, guardianship nominations and powers of attorney generally do, the conversations to have first, and how to prepare for an attorney meeting. Reader: a couple with a new baby and no will. Voice: warm and practical. General education only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, it says the rules vary by state, no do-it-yourself forms.

4. **The small business legal checklist** (Lead magnet). Founders tend to find out what they skipped only when something goes wrong. A list of the questions to raise when starting out helps them and sets up the conversation a small firm wants to have.
Brief: A legal checklist of questions for a new small business: formation, founders' agreements, contracts, hiring, intellectual property and insurance, each with a one-line reason why it matters and what to ask an attorney. Reader: two founders signing their first client. Voice: terse and friendly. General education only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, no templates to sign, and no statement of what the law requires in any one place.

5. **What happens after an accident claim, step by step** (Illustrated guide). After an accident, people are hurt and getting calls from insurers. A picture-led guide to the general stages gives them a sense of the road ahead, before they’ve chosen who to call.
Brief: An illustrated guide to the general stages of a personal injury claim after a car accident: what to record at first, how insurers usually communicate, what a demand and settlement generally are, and when a case may go to court, one picture per stage. Reader: someone recovering from a crash with an insurer calling. Voice: calm and exact. General education only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, no promised recoveries, past results or settlement figures, and it says time limits apply and vary by state.

6. **A tenant’s guide to common disputes** (Lead magnet). Deposit fights, repairs and notice letters bring in many first calls to a housing lawyer or legal clinic. A general guide on how to document a problem is useful right away and earns the call.
Brief: A general guide for renters facing a problem with a landlord: how to document repairs and communication, how to write a clear letter, what a notice is and why not to ignore it, and where to get help. Reader: a renter whose deposit has been withheld or whose heat has been broken for weeks. Voice: steady and practical. General education only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, it says that tenant law varies by state and city, with a marked blank for local legal aid.

7. **A worksheet for preparing for mediation** (Workbook). Clients often arrive at mediation unsure what they want. A workbook that gets their priorities on paper makes for a better session, and shows prospects how you work.
Brief: A workbook for preparing for a family mediation: writing down what matters most, separating needs from wants, gathering financial facts, and practicing how to say hard things, with one fill-in page for each topic. Reader: a parent about to begin mediation over a parenting schedule. Voice: calm and second person. General education only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, no promised outcomes, and it says to seek their own attorney's advice before signing anything.

8. **A brochure on how your firm works** (Brochure). Fear of the bill stops many people from calling. A short brochure on what happens in a consultation and how you charge answers it, in words you have checked against your own rules.
Brief: A short brochure on how a small immigration law firm works with clients: what happens in a first consultation, how fees are explained, who will handle the case and how the firm keeps clients updated, with a marked blank for the firm's required disclaimers. Use only the firm details I supply. Reader: a family referred by a friend. Voice: warm and plain. General information only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, no promised outcomes, no past results, no testimonials.

9. **A quarterly note for the businesses you advise** (Newsletter). A short issue on one general legal topic gives clients and referral partners a reason to keep your name in their inbox. Date and source each point, and link to the original rule.
Brief: A quarterly newsletter issue from a small business law firm: one general legal topic explained, one change with its date and a link to the official source, a question clients often ask, and how to reach the firm. Use only the changes and sources I supply. Reader: a business owner who skims. Voice: brief and factual. General education only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, with a marked blank for the firm's required disclaimers.

10. **A book for the people you represent** (Nonfiction book). A book gives people in a hard legal situation something steady to read. It also gives referrers and journalists a fuller sense of your work than a practice-area page can.
Brief: A general-audience book on going through a divorce with children: how the process generally runs, talking to the children, money and housing questions to raise with professionals, and life after the decree, with reflection questions. Use composite fictional families labeled as such, and no real client. Reader: a parent at the start of a separation. Voice: humane first person, plain. General education only: not legal advice, no attorney-client relationship, it says the law varies by state, no past results or promised outcomes.

## Your review comes first

Every brief on this page is general education. Each one tells Chapbook that the book isn’t legal advice, and many also rule out past results or promised outcomes. That doesn’t make a draft ready to send. Law varies by place, a draft can get it wrong, and Chapbook doesn’t know your jurisdiction or your bar’s advertising, solicitation and specialization rules. You review every draft for your own rules before anyone reads it, and add whatever disclaimers those rules require. Keep client files out of Chapbook altogether.

## How to choose one

Write for the person in the week before they call you. An executor needs to know what probate involves. Someone hurt in a crash needs to know the stages of a claim. A founder signing a first client needs to know which questions to raise. Stay inside your own practice area, because a narrow guide is both more useful and easier to check.

## Every brief here opens in Chapbook

Each idea comes with the paragraph Chapbook needs to start: the topic, the reader and the voice. The brief at the top of this page is a starting point, not a book we have already made from it: open it, change the matter and the client to your own practice, and keep the limits it sets. Chapbook then proposes titles and an outline for you to approve before anything is drafted.

## Questions

### Can a lawyer use AI to write a lead magnet?

Chapbook can draft one, but it gives no legal advice and a draft can state the law wrongly. You stay responsible for it, so check every statement and review the book for your own bar and advertising rules before anyone reads it.

### Can a law firm’s lead magnet count as attorney advertising?

It may. Whether a book counts, and what labels or disclaimers it needs, depends on your jurisdiction’s rules. Chapbook adds no disclaimers and checks nothing, so these briefs stay general and any labels or disclaimers are yours to add.

### Can I add client files as sources?

No. Chapbook sends your brief, sources and manuscript to AI providers, and its privacy policy asks you to leave sensitive personal data out. Keep client files and anything confidential out, and use fictional composites instead.
