# Lead magnet ideas for churches

A church’s best lead magnet helps someone who isn’t sure about coming, or helps a member go deeper: a guide to a first visit, a devotional that follows the sermon series, a kids’ activity pack, a help guide for a hard season. Here are ten, each a brief that opens in Chapbook as a starting point, using your own teaching and your own tradition’s words.

## A brief to start from

> A short guide for someone visiting our church for the first time: where to park, what happens in a service and how long it lasts, what people wear, what to do with children, whether you will be asked for anything, and how to find out more. Use only the details I supply. Reader: a neighbor who drives past every Sunday and has not been inside a church in twenty years. Voice: warm and plain, no insider words, no pressure.

## 10 ideas

1. **Your first visit, without the guesswork** (Brochure). A person who has never been to your church worries about the small things: where to sit, what to wear, what to do with the kids. A short guide answers them and makes the first Sunday easier.

2. **A sermon series as a small book** (Collection). A strong series ends and is gone. Edited into a short book in the pastor’s own words, it gives members something to keep and share with a friend, and something to give a newcomer.
Brief: A collection of six sermons from our series on the Psalms of lament, edited lightly into chapters with a short reflection question after each. Use only the manuscripts I upload, keep the pastor's words and theology, and invent no story, quote or citation. Reader: a member who missed two Sundays, or a friend going through a hard year. Voice: the pastor's own, warm and thoughtful.

3. **A daily devotional to go with the season** (Workbook). Advent and Lent come with built-in readers. A short daily guide tied to your own teaching brings people together on the same page, and is easy for members to share.
Brief: A twenty-eight-day Advent devotional for our congregation: each day has a Scripture reference I supply, a short reflection in our tradition, a question to think about and a line to write on. Use only the readings and notes I upload, and invent no quotation. Reader: a busy member who wants a daily practice for one season. Voice: warm and unhurried, faithful to our own teaching.

4. **A children’s activity pack for Sunday school** (Activity pack). Volunteer teachers are often short on time and materials. A printable pack for one story helps them, and parents who ask for it get a way to carry the lesson home.
Brief: A printable activity pack for Sunday school on the story of the ark: eight coloring pages of the animals, boat and rainbow, a word search, a maze for the animals to reach the boat, a matching page of animal pairs and a worksheet to draw a promise, for ages 6 to 8, given to parents and teachers from a book page. Reader: a volunteer teacher, or a parent at home. Voice: short, gentle instructions a child can follow, and a brief note for the grown-up. Every character is our own.

5. **A guide for people in a hard season** (Lead magnet). Someone grieving, or caring for a sick parent, may reach out for the first time in years. A gentle guide says you’re there, with practical help, and asks nothing of them.
Brief: A gentle guide for someone grieving a death: what the first weeks are often like, what helps and what people get wrong, how to pray when you cannot, and where to find help here, with marked blanks for our pastoral contacts and a local crisis line. Use only the Scripture and notes I supply. Reader: a neighbor or a member who has just lost a spouse. Voice: tender and plain, not a substitute for counseling or medical care, and it says so.

6. **What we believe, in plain words** (Lead magnet). A visitor who asks what your church believes deserves a clear answer in plain language. A short book gives it, and helps members explain the church to a friend.
Brief: A plain-language introduction to what our church believes and why: God, Jesus, Scripture, prayer, baptism and how we treat one another, each with a short answer and a question people often ask. Use only our statement of faith and the notes I upload, and invent nothing. Reader: a curious visitor with no church background. Voice: warm and direct, no jargon, respectful of other traditions.

7. **A marriage or premarital workbook** (Workbook). Many pastors meet with couples before a wedding using a stack of photocopies. A workbook in your own teaching is more useful to them, and can reach couples beyond your own congregation.
Brief: A six-session premarital workbook for couples meeting with a pastor: family background, money, conflict, faith at home, children and expectations, each with a short reading from my notes, questions to discuss and a page to write on. Use only my notes. Reader: an engaged couple meeting our pastor for the first time. Voice: warm and frank, not a substitute for counseling, and it says where to seek help where there is fear or abuse.

8. **A welcome guide for newcomers’ families** (Illustrated guide). Parents want to know their children will be safe and looked after before they’ll come back. A short guide to the children’s program and your safety practices answers that directly.
Brief: An illustrated guide to our children's and youth ministry for visiting families: what happens each Sunday by age group, how check-in works, how we keep children safe, and how to meet the leaders, one picture per section. Use only the procedures I supply, and invent no policy. Reader: a parent of two young children who is new to the area. Voice: warm and reassuring, plain words.

9. **A quarterly note on what the church is doing** (Newsletter). Members and neighbors often don’t know about the food pantry or the youth trip. A short designed issue helps them feel part of what’s going on, and gives them something to pass on.
Brief: A quarterly newsletter issue from our church: what is coming up, one ministry and how to help, a short word from the pastor, one story told with permission and how to reach us. Use only the details I supply. Reader: a member who comes twice a month, or a neighbor who gave to the food drive. Voice: warm and brief, no fundraising pressure, no invented stories.

10. **A book for the community on your church’s story** (Nonfiction book). A church’s anniversary is a reason to tell its story. A short history in the voices of its people gives long-time members something to keep, and shows newcomers what they are joining.
Brief: A book on the hundred-year history of a neighborhood church: the founders, the years the building nearly closed, how the congregation changed with the neighborhood and the people who kept it going. Use only the archives and interviews I upload, with each person's permission, and invent no person, date or quote. Reader: a long-time member, or a newcomer curious about the building. Voice: warm and honest, first person plural, candid about the hard years.

## How to choose one

Think about who you are hoping to serve. If you want neighbors to feel able to come through the door, write the first-visit guide, in words they would use. If you want members to go deeper, make the devotional or the sermon collection. If Sunday school teachers need help, make the activity pack, and keep every character your own.

If you already have sermons in manuscript, “I have a draft” reads your files in word for word, for no credits, so the words stay the pastor’s. Whatever the kind of book, your pastor or leadership should read every line. Chapbook doesn’t know your tradition, and a draft can misquote Scripture or say something you don’t teach. [World Book Day](/examples/bookshop/), a sample brochure for a fictional bookshop, shows the shape an open day or a parish festival could take.

## Every brief here opens in Chapbook

Each idea comes with the paragraph Chapbook needs to start: the topic, the reader and the voice. The brief at the top of this page is a starting point, not a book we have already made from it: open it, put in your own church and neighborhood, and add your own teaching as sources. Chapbook then proposes titles and an outline for you to approve before anything is drafted.

## Questions

### What is a good lead magnet for a church?

Something that helps a person who isn’t sure about coming, or helps a member go deeper, like a guide to a first visit or a devotional for a season. It should ask nothing of the reader and be useful on its own.

### Will AI change our church’s theology?

Treat every draft as if it might. Tell Chapbook to use only your teaching and invent no quotation, as the sermon and devotional briefs here do, and “I have a draft” brings sermons in word for word. Your pastor reads every line and checks each citation.

### Can a church book be in a language other than English?

Yes. A book can be written in English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese (Brazil), Italian and Dutch, chosen in the brief. The app’s interface stays in English, so have a speaker of that language read the whole book before you share it.
